Yellow Woman is the painting that began John's life as an artist. Created in 1991 after a twenty year career in neurosurgery, it marked the beginning of a lifelong exploration of the female figure that continues to shape his work today.
From the outset, the painting established many of the visual elements that would become synonymous with John's style: simplified form, bold color, and the expressive use of yellow, a color that would emerge as his signature throughout his career.
