Artist Remarks:
As a child, I had two recurring dreams. In one, I could fly if I simply believed enough to keep jumping. In the other, I could breathe beneath the water. Both dreams felt completely real, and every morning I was convinced I could recreate them. I leapt from docks expecting to inhale underwater. I spent hours trying to launch myself into the air. Reality was always waiting.
This painting imagines a different ending.
The red figure kneels effortlessly upon the water, suspended between the possible and the impossible. She possesses the unwavering certainty that children so naturally carry, the conviction that the world's rules are still negotiable. Unlike the artist, she never collides with gravity or gasps for breath. She simply succeeds.
The work is less about fantasy than about remembering a state of belief we eventually lose. It asks whether imagination disappears with age, or whether it survives somewhere beneath experience, waiting for us to believe again.
